This is one of those situations desperately needing an explanation, caption, something... I've got nothing, terribly sorry. If I was to offer an outlandish speculation it would be this. A backpacker living in a next door hostel can tolerate only a diet consisting of dried fish, apples and feta cheese (not picky about the variety but prefers Danish Feta) because as a kid he was a stowaway on a cargo ship carrying... dried fish, apples and feta cheese. Only he survived the trip as the whole crew died of food poisoning. He thinks he's responsible because he stole food from the galley (kitchen in sailor's language) and contaminated it in the process.
