5 PHOTO RELATED REASONS WHY FREMANTLE IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO GET MARRIED IN WA
This page is going to be a little different. It’s not going to be about me (well, I’ll keep it to minimum) but about a place. And it’s aimed at people thinking about getting married in Fremantle. I’m just trying to tip the scales a little and show you how awesome Fremantle is. I’ve been living here for 10 years now and photographing it this whole time. Last 4 years as a wedding photographer. I’ve walked almost every street in search of interesting photos or scouting locations for my wedding couples. When I close my eyes I can walk actually walk them in my head. This is where my adventure with photography AND weddings started. I’ve managed to photograph couples getting married on 3 continents now and I still think Fremantle is one of the best places to do it. Here are my 5 photography related reasons.
1 Architecture
When I talk to my couples before the wedding day I want to know what sort locations they have in mind. Are you thinking urban settings, quirky streets, interesting architecture, street art? If the answer is yes than I can’t think of any other place with so much visual variety. It’s all here and much more: the port and views from around B-Shed. Industrial spots within walking distance of buildings and history of Fremantle West End. Chain link fences next to hundred years old walls. Interesting shadows of back alleys street corners. All of it to be used to create images with creative spark.
2 Nature
If nature is your thing and you’re looking for ocean, river, wind, trees, dunes etc in your images than we’ve got that too. 5-10 minute drive takes you to places that look untouched by human presence. Tip here: leave your awesome stilettos for the streets, bring comfy flats for the paths less travelled.
3 The Mix
Wedding photos combining the best of both worlds. My personal favourite :) I can’t think of any other place where you can combine the two so easily in one hour or in one photo. My last wedding was a great example. The red shoes and the couple watching ducklings. Both so different and unique; both belong to the same couple.
4 Fremantle Wedding Venues
As eclectic and quirky as the place itself. Fremantle is famous for it’s funkiness: this is where history and character meets the hip, river meets the ocean. Venues overlooking the Swan River, venues overlooking the ocean, venues with beach access, venues that are breweries, venues that are funky bars and venues older the the state itself. Did I say It takes only minutes to get to some of my favourite wedding photo locations? Places like Moore and Moore, Distribution Lane, Guildhall, Kidogo Arthouse or some of the new ones like Bathers Beach House.
5 LIGHT
This is the biggest one on this list and the key element of photography in general. I’m not going to get into details but there are places and venues around Perth that are a bit harder to photograph especially in summer. Perth summer light either makes you or brakes you. It’s strong and harsh so you have to learn how to use it. Finding open shade, soft reflected light or places where light is scattered is the way to do it. I can walk out of any venue in Fremantle and find a cool looking place WITH great light within 5 minutes.
