Phase One IQ 280 - my mini review.

Thanks to Steve Wise from 27 Creative, me and a few other fellow photographers got our hands on a few Phase One cameras with the new IQ280 digital backs (a day before the official release).  Medium Format was a totally new experience to me but I liked it a lot :) You can discuss technical details forever but only one thing is important - does it take awesome pictures?

It does, the amount of fine detail in the pictures is unbelievable and so is the dynamic range. Images are near perfect straight from the camera.

The not so great side is, well, the need to sell a kidney to raise money to buy one. A camera that fits into a small backpack costs more than 2 brand new Jeep Wranglers... You could buy  a 35mm pro camera with a set of top range lenses, go traveling around Africa for 2 years and come back a better person with some  stunning images. Something similar to what Steve McCurry did in Afghanistan and what made him famous. So, as much as I liked the camera I think there are better ways to spend the money. I would certainly accept it as a gift though ;)

Side note - it was a bit scary how quickly I've forgotten I was holding 50 k in my hands...
